Filamenteis an upcoming iPad app that is a native client for Sharepoint.  It’s described thusly in their Twitter bio:

Filamente, a native iPad client for SharePoint, allows you to perform various tasks that you cannot do using a regular web browser on your Apple iPad

I haven’t found a lot of details on the app as yet – other than a few screenshotshere.  Then again, I haven’t seen many iOS apps at all – and none for the iPad – that act as Sharepoint clients.  It’s been a long while since I had any exposure to Sharepoint, but whenever I did I thought it was very impressive – so I would imagine iPad Sharepoint client apps could be a big deal for many corporate users.

Filamente is expected to be released on the App Store on September 12, at an introductory price of $2.99.  In the meantime, you can follow@filamenteon Twitter for news.

As we expected, iPhone users awaiting the next version of iOS can now plug their phones into iTunes and download away!  iOS 4.1 was announced at the last Apple event along with several new iPods and the second generation Apple TV, and although no official date was given as to when it would be available, [...]

The frenzied folks over at iFixit have torn down theiPod touch 4and the big news — or rather small news — is that it only has 256MB of RAM, the same as theiPadandiPhone 3GS, but half what theiPhone 4has.

Along with the tiny .7mp camera,lack of IPS display, and lack of a 128GB option, this feels like a cost-savings measure by Apple.

An unsubsidized iPhone 4 will run you over $600 or $700. No one would pay that for an iPod touch, so are lower specs worth the lower price?

The almost forgotten Zune HD aside, iPod touch pretty much has its product category to itself. However, as we start seeing 7-inch and smaller “tablets” start to hit the market, the iPod touch begins to compete with them as well. Being relatively cheap is a huge advantage there, probably as much as access to the iTunes App Store is.

What do you think? 256MB a deal-breaker for anyone? Last straw? Or still not an issue at that price?

VMware– makers of leading virtualization software – apparently have plans for an iPad app. They’ve even shown an early preview of theirVMware View for iPadapp at the recent VMworld conference.

VMware briefly showed off its in-development iPad client during the VMworld keynote address, including the ability to have a desktop “follow” a user from one device to the next. That means a user can log into a desktop on a PC, then shift to an iPad, and then move to a laptop, and the user state and settings will remain intact each time the user switches devices.

Mware View iPad users will click on an icon that brings them to their full desktop, but with the iPad’s touchscreen interface, including a virtual keyboard and touch-based mouse.

There’s no word yet on when we may see this app – but it’s one I’ll be looking forward to trying out.  I use VMware Fusion every day on my MacBook Pro, it’s an essential app for me.

The new fourth-generation iPod touch from Apple has the exact same A4 processor as the iPad, meaning it has 256MB of RAM, or half than the 512MB found in the iPhone 4.

Not sure it’s a great idea to expose the iPad to those sort of rough conditions – hopefully the’ve got some heavy-duty protection for it.   TUAW reckons that is The Weather Channel’s app they’re using on it.

I’m definitely leaving my iPad at home today – as we’re getting clobbered with rain and storms in Texas.
